With the launch of Gwashamba mall, named after queen Gwashamba, Ondangwa reached an amazing tipping point.
It became the town centre, drawing people in and spurring significant growth in terms of residential and business development. Gwashamba epitomises the impact of urbanisation. The centre was completed in May 2013, only 15 months after construction commenced. Today the centre offers a one-stop shopping experience by housing big brands. It has transformed the community as well as how locals shop in the north of Namibia.
