Commercial buildings and distribution centres in Namibia.
We are thrilled to announce another addition to the pedigree as we celebrate the groundbreaking of
Buchter Village Mall in Lüderitz on 26 September 2025. The mall construction cost is estimated at N$220
million, bringing much-needed retail space, office rentals, and hotel accommodation – supporting Lüderitz
as it transforms into a key economic hub.
Safland CEO, Kallie van der Merwe said that the retail development is anchored by Shoprite and with office
space to rent, is poised to make a major impact on the commercial landscape of Lüderitz. Covering an erf
size of 23 000 sqm, the project will feature a gross lettable area of 7 970 sqm. The development will also
have a hospitality/hotel accommodation component with approximately 50 rooms adding another 2 2361
sqm. The strategic location of the Buchter Village Mall at the corner of Wagenbauer Street and Lüderitz
Street just 30 meters from the B4 road as you enter the town enhances its accessibility.
!Nami#Nus constituency councillor Susan Ndjaleka, has described the groundbreaking of the Buchter
Village Mall as the tangible commencement of a new chapter for Lüderitz. “The discovery of substantial
offshore oil reserves has ushered in a new era of economic growth, transforming Lüderitz into a prime
location for investment. This development is truly one for the books, representing a significant investment of
millions of dollars into our community and is therefore welcomed by all.”
She emphasised that the benefits of the Buchter Village Mall resonate far beyond the cash register. “This
investment directly addresses the increasing demand for high-quality retail spaces, ensuring local money
stays in Lüderitz and contributes to our town’s overall economic vitality. The construction process creates
immediate temporary employment. More sustainably, the tenants will provide lasting, formal jobs,
empowering our residents and their families,” Ndjaleka said.
Ndjaleka also hailed the Buchter Village Mall as a testament of planning and investment in the town’s
future. “This project is a shift toward open collaboration, bringing in ‘perfect fit’ tenants who understand and
value the immense potential here in Lüderitz. Crucially, the development will also feature a hotel
accommodation component ready to serve the inflow of new business and tourist travellers,” she said.
