N$270 million investment set to transform community access

Windhoek, 30 September 2025: Oryx Properties Limited and Safland Property Group hosted
an exclusive media walkthrough of the Goreangab Mall development last week, showcasing
significant progress on one of Namibia’s most ambitious retail projects aimed at bringing
quality shopping directly to underserved communities.

The N$270 million development, scheduled to open in May 2026, represents a courageous
partnership between Oryx Properties and Safland Property Group, with over 82% of retail
space already secured and Shoprite confirmed as the anchor tenant.
“The Goreangab Mall is a symbol of what’s possible when the private sector comes together
to invest meaningfully in communities that have long been underserved,” said Ben Jooste,
CEO of Oryx Properties. “This mall represents a commitment to economic empowerment, to
community upliftment and to inclusive growth.”

The development is creating 700 jobs in total: 340 during construction and 360 permanent
positions once operational. Main contractor Andeo Construction, who took over the site on 3
February 2025, has already completed 95% of concrete work, pouring close to 7,600 cubic
metres and installing 490 tons of reinforced steel. The project has logged approximately
250,000 labour hours to date, with the team currently 7-8 working days behind schedule due
to Namibia’s exceptionally wet rainy season, which saw nearly 400mm of rainfall in March
alone during major excavation work.

Kallie van der Merwe of Safland Property Group emphasised the transformative impact: “A
shopping centre is the heartbeat of a community. Here at Goreangab—more than 300
permanent opportunities. That means 300 people who no longer need to travel into town.
That means 300 commuter trips saved every single day.”

The mall will be Edge green-certified and will feature an innovative integrated public
transport hub, with taxis entering directly beneath the mall to connect passengers
seamlessly to shops above. Covering 14,700m² of top floor retail space and approximately
10,000m² of basement parking and taxi ranks, the development serves as the anchor for the
broader Goreangab Waterfront Development, which includes 2,500 residential units under
construction.

Shoprite Regional Manager Collin Christof confirmed the retailer’s commitment as anchor
tenant, noting the partnership represents an opportunity to serve Namibians “where it
matters most—in their communities.”

The development brings over 40 tenants to the doorstep of Goreangab and the greater
Katutura area, reducing travel costs, saving time and likely reducing traffic into the CBD
while furthering community pride and ownership.
